'SATYA' is the Sanskrit word for truth and a central concept in Indian philosophy, Hinduism and Buddhism. It is viewed as an ethical concept about truthfulness, referring to being truthful in one's thought, speech and action. In connection to Sadhana, spiritual practice, the meaning of Satya is "the benevolent use of words and the mind for the welfare of others." It is described as an important virtue and a fundamental precept in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the sage of yoga. "To one established in truthfulness, actions and their results will be subservient."
